Weekend Destinations for Any Budget

Is the home front starting to chafe? Are you ready to experience something new, if only for a few nights? Does it seem as though the sound of sweet little voices demanding more juice might just make your head explode if you don’t do something about it soon?

If so, you’re in good company. We all need a little break from the workaday life every once in a while. Whether you’re escaping to blow off some of that 70-hours-a-week steam or looking for somewhere fun to go with the kiddos, we’ve got something for everyone here.

Whip out that notepad and old-school paper map, because we’re betting you’ll love these awesome weekend getaway options.

Goodstone Inn & Restaurant

Virginia’s Goodstone Inn has a reputation for finery, from their luxuriously appointed rooms to their well-reviewed restaurant to the calm, quiet and lovely spa. However, that’s not to say you can’t get out and about as well. The area boasts plenty of hiking trails and biking trails, as well as large grounds for wandering aimlessly. Be warned, though: It’s a bit spendy at around $400 a night or more. This is no place for the kiddos; save the idea for something special.

Linville Caverns

Caves are a favorite destination for little ones, who love the magnificent formations that crowd these subterranean spots. Of course, we grownups enjoy a little nature as well, which is why Linville Caverns in North Carolina has a good reputation for entertainment of all ages. Don’t be scared off by their terrible website, which is seemingly as ancient as the caverns themselves … the visit is worth it. Linville has plenty of accommodations as well, so don’t worry.

The Cloister at Sea Island

For those who want a true all-around vacation experience, Sea Island can’t be beat. This amazing resort boasts acres of beachfront sand with water activities, beautiful rooms, oaks hung with moss scattered between palm trees … and basically anything else you could want in a vacation. From family activities such as falconry to solo enjoyments like tours from the history buffs, you’ll love this little weekend getaway.

The Red Horse Inn

Here’s another fun one for couples looking for a romantic breather, far from city sounds and the demands of family or work. South Carolina’s Red Horse Inn is incredibly comfortable, and even allows pets in some of their rooms – so if you want to bring Fido along, have at it. For the amount of luxury it offers, the Red Horse Inn is actually quite reasonable, at about $600 for three nights.

Mansion on Forsyth Park

You know you’re curious about Charleston. It’s just a city, right? … but then why does is it always getting rave reviews in travel magazines and on foodie blogs? Okay, that’s it: You have to check it out. Charleston is the perfect place for a solo traveler to visit. Head down to try local eateries such as Second State Coffee and Cannon Green, and be sure to bring a fully charged phone with you. You’re going to want to Instagram this.

Now if that doesn’t give you a few ideas, we’re not sure what will! So pick up the phone and make your reservation today, and grab back a little bit of that sanity you’re missing. You deserve a weekend, so go make it happen.
